Monday Night Open Range - Indoor Shooting

March 8, 2021.  Range Safety Officer (RSO) - Randy Longmore   randy.longmore@gmail.com

This evening is open to members and the public.  The cost is $3 per person.

Masks are required.

Due to COVID restrictions, we are going to try to begin the regular Monday night open range, but we will operate by requiring registrations for time slots.  The reason is to avoid overcrowding the building and the range.

People will need to register for one-half hour slots from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.  We will use four of the seven lanes to stay distanced.  That means 4 lanes x 6 one-half hour slots = 24 possible reservations per night.

If there are vacant time slots after yours, you can continue to use the range.  Check with the RSO before you begin.

RESERVATIONS CLOSE AT 3 PM MONDAYS.  If you make a reservation after 3 PM, you are responsible for printing out the last page of your confirmation email or saving the email on your phone, and presenting either to check in.  We don't have WiFi at the range, so we have to work from paper lists.

When you register, you will receive an email confirmation.  You don't need the QR code on that email, we're just working with names and emails.

Arrive early enough to check in and be ready to move to the range when your time slot is open.  You need to sign an annual waiver before shooting, so plan a few minutes for that.

We would like your feedback as we move forward.  We are all volunteers, and we are trying to find the best way to let people use the indoor range.

Is half an hour OK?  Or would you prefer an hour because a half hour is unreasonable?  There will always be a range officer on site, so please pass along constructive comments.

Masks and eye & ear protection are required.  The club can no longer share earmuffs but we do provide foam earplugs.  Shooting glasses are the same – we can no longer share, but brand new shooting glassses are available for $3 a pair.  You were probably thinking about buying a pair anyway!

SAFETY FIRST!

  • ALWAYS point the muzzle in a safe direction.  Focus and keep your pistol pointed downrange while you load cartridges or insert a new magazine.  Don't allow yourself to point the pistol to your left as you remove or insert a magazine.  Keep the gun pointed downrange toward the target.
  • ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire at a target.  Keep your finger OUT of the trigger guard until your sights are on the target and you are ready to fire.
  • ALWAYS keep your gun unloaded until you're ready to use it.  Don't load it until you have a target downrange and ready to go.  Don't load it if you are still moving your equipment between the work surface at the firing line and the work surface at the ready line behind you.  UNLOAD if you need to do any work on a gun - clearing a jam, adjusting the sights, anything.  UNLOAD until you are ready to use it.
