Hunter sight-in days

The time has come again for Sight-in days! As usual we are looking for volunteers to call before we have to start going down the list. It would be fantastic to get some new people on the line. It really is a fun time and everyone learns something everyday. Being a sight-in coach is very easy and even less experienced shooters can be a real help to folks as they rush in to get their rifles tuned up for the big event.
Although Conley Janssen has asked to be less involved with the day to day sight in responsibilities this season, he continues to be the main contact for you to get signed up on the schedule. As soon as we have the schedule roughed in, we’ll get it posted on the web site so you can check for last minute gaps in the work coverage. We appreciate all the help we can get, so even if you’re not signed up, feel free to pop in whenever you have time.
The sight in event for 2007 will begin on Saturday October 20th, 2007. We’ll look forward to seeing you there. A special note to folks, who can’t spend a lot of time on the firing line, we are always in need of people to work inside as well. If you can help sell tickets, collect money or provide support for those working on the firing line, your help is needed too! Just let us know what you’d like to do and we’ll be thrilled to have you with us.
Every time I have been a coach I have seen at least one hunter that had some safety/gun/ammo issues that were resolved on the range instead of in the field. The time you spend with sight-in days will also satisfy your membership obligations for volunteer time. Please call Conley Janssen at 327 9518 or 244 2841to leave a message AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

To get the new clubhouse and ranges spruced up prior to the sight in days, we’ve scheduled a workday on Saturday September 15, 2007. We’ll need to get a crew together at the range to put up new target frames and clean the ranges. We need to ask for help and we’d sure love to see a few of you out there. If we can swing it, we might even have a little BBQ, Fish Fry or? Call Vince Rittmiller 327-1358.

A Word about 2007 Sight in Days

THANKS AGAIN to everyone who helped with last year’s sight in event. I might be changing things a little this year. I would like to have a “pre-sight-in-days meeting” at the range with all of the volunteers to make sure that we are all on the same page and hopefully help things run even more smoothly than last year.
There is a common misconception that sight-in volunteers need to be some kind of range expert. While there are some really knowledgeable folks in our club, many of us are just people that enjoy shooting and helping others shoot well. There are NO special skills required for you to do a great job during the event. A good attitude and a desire to help out fellow shooters and hunters are all you really need.

Raffle Tickets

As always, the raffle tickets are an important part of our annual fund raising effort. Please help out by selling the supply of tickets included with this packet and be sure to turn in tickets and cash before Friday November 2, 2007. The raffle winners need not be present to win and will be notified by telephone within a day or two of the closing on Friday November 2, 2007.
If you want to drop off raffle tickets early, the monthly business meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM so stop in then and drop them off.

Last chance for Service Rifle Matches

There are still a couple of Service Rifle matches on the schedule for Tuesday September 18th and tentatively Tuesday October 16th, 2007 just prior to the business meetings. The fall matches are “weather permitting” so please be sure to check with Stu and Phyllis 218-246-8742 to be sure they are green for go.
By the way, many thanks to Jerry Lorbecki for all the MOWING time that he has fit into his busy schedule this summer!

ITASCA GUN CLUB PRESENTS BULLSEYE ‘N’ BRATS

On Saturday, September 22, IGC will be having a pistol shoot! Shooting will be done in 2 stages, .22 rimfire using open sights or non-magnifying optics in the morning and any caliber using open sights only, in the afternoon. In between the events, there will be a barbecue lunch featuring brats, polish, hotdogs, potato salad and baked beans. (continued page 2).

Bullseye ‘n’ Brats

The event will be fired on the outdoor range at IGC. In case of inclement weather, the indoor range will be used. There will be 6 shooting lanes and relays will be every ½ hour. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 places so start practicing!

Shooters will be charged just $5 for the whole event so sign up early! Shooters should be sure to bring their favorite ammo, eye protection and hearing protection. To sign up, please e-mail Mike Hughes at "pistolchair@itascagunclub.org". If you don’t have e-mail, call Mike at 327-3231. We will fill the time slots closest to lunch first, so that people don’t stand around waiting to eat.

Anyone who would like to assist with the firing or with the barbecue will be welcome. Let Mike know if you would like to help.

IGC Winter Bullseye & Open Indoor Range Times

Mike Hughes and Joe Oliver will be teaming up to run the Bullseye league from Thursday Dec 6th 2007 until Thursday March 28th 2008. We will have open shooting on Monday nights starting Monday Nov. 26th 2007 and will have a practice league on Thursday Nov. 29th. We would also like to ask for volunteers to help run the Monday night open shooting sessions. Call Joe 326-8812 or Mike 327-3231

Conley Janssen will be running open indoor pistol sessions again this year on Wednesday mornings from about 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Open pistol sessions are open to the public, cost is $5.00 per hour for non-members and there is a substantial discount for IGC club members.

NRA MEMBERS!

Don’t forget. When it’s time to renew your NRA membership, you can get a $10 discount off the usual dues rate by renewing through IGC. Just send your check (payable to NRA) for $25 along with your name, address, choice of magazine and NRA membership # to: IGC/NRA, P.O.201, Grand Rapids, MN. 55744. It’s just that easy! If you’re one of those who haven’t gotten around to joining NRA yet, you can get the same deal! Remember, either way the club will receive a commission on your membership dues payment.

Or you can subscribe to receive IGC club notices using the web site www.itascagunclub.org by going to the membership information page and clicking on the link "subscribe".
