Hunter Sight-in Days Report
Thanks to
EVERYONE that helped make Sight-in Days 2007 a great success! Once
again the IGC members came through with flying colors.
We had
another heavy turnout this year. Even though at times it seemed
slower than usual at the range, thanks to great weather that helped
space out the traffic and a super lineup of volunteers, we actually
had an increase in traffic of about 12% sighting in about 1450 guns
compared to 1293 during the 2006 event.
It was
great to see a lot of the same faces at the range, but even better
to see some of the new volunteers out there this year.
Let’s get
ready for next year now. Sight in dates will be October 25th
2008 through November 7, 2008. If you will volunteer to lend a hand,
please call Conley Janssen 218-327-9518. |

Itasca Gun
Club Phone Number
As a cost saving
measure, we decided to save the dollars spent on having a land phone
line to the UN-manned clubhouse. We do still want to have contact
with volunteers during club events, so we maintain a cell phone on
site. To obtain the number for our Tracfone, contact any club
officer or email me at

Indoor Range/Clubhouse Project Report
Well
folks, except for the water well and toilet, the indoor range
clubhouse is in the finishing touches phase. Small projects like
trim, painting and decorating are all but complete and it looks
like we’ll be on target to get working on the plumbing this
summer. It seemed like a big project when we started, but thanks
to IGC volunteers, the Sheriffs department and area vendors who
all pitched in to help, this building project went smoothly.
Now
let’s use it. If you have a passion for shooting and have an idea
for a class, demonstration, shooting match or really any related
idea. Let us know and we’ll help you get organized and you can
schedule your own event.
Most times there are
plenty of folks who will come out and give it a try providing they
have a "trail boss" to get things moving.
Muzzleloader Optics
You may
recall the topic of Muzzleloader optics coming up last year and
the possibility of legislation that could have allowed
non-magnifying scopes for use on muzzleloaders for Minnesota Deer
Hunters. To sum it up, there wasn’t any progress on that bill.
Those
of us who originally supported the idea had to do a bit of head
scratching hoping to discover a better sight for folks whose eyes
have problems with the often poor quality open sights available on
muzzleloaders.
Happily, Tim Schultz at the Bowstring Store came up with a great
alternative sight from the folks at TruGlo. The sight called
…..features a rear "Peep" and a front "Globe" that houses a super
bright fiber optic dot. The inexpensive sight is a standard
replacement for most, if not all of the modern muzzleloaders and
comes with an assortment of mounting screws to accommodate a
variety of manufacturers configurations.
Easy to fit and easy to
sight in and the front sight shows up like a charm during low
light. This really solved my problem and to me, it’s a better
mousetrap. It might be worth a look. Jeff Sundin |
